There are several cultural influences expressed in my
work, especially the Asian and Polynesian, both part of my early background.
Recently my work has reflected the inspiration I've found from certain Chinese
artifacts, bronze vessels, porcelain dishes, carved jade, painted silk and
lacquerware. A few examples were brought to this country by my ancestors. The
layering effect of time on their surfaces has only added to their original
beauty.
The resulting paintings and collages are mainly abstract
but contain a few personally significant images. I use many layers of acrylic
paint and media as well as fabric, thread, paper and laser print
transfers.
