In November, 2008, SLAC produced a major, membership exhibit:

GATHERING

You can see pictures of the exhibition here.
SLAC donated 20% of the sales during this exhibit to the new, Silverlake Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library.

Highlighting the SLAC exhibit, GATHERING, were portraits in acrylic on paper by Don Bachardy. Bachardy is noted for his portraits of famous Hollywood royalty and politicians. He was born at General Hospital in downtown Los Angeles in the 1930's, grew up in Atwater, and attended schools in Silver Lake until he met his life partner, the late Christopher Isherwood, writer of classic novels such as Down There on a Visit and A Single Man. Isherwood's The Berlin Stories was made into the film and musical Cabaret.  Isherwood also co-authored translations of some major Vedanta religious books with Swami Prabhananda.

Don also signed copies of his 7th book, Stars in My Eyes, on the opening night .  More of Don Bachardy's art may be seen at the Craig Krull Gallery at Bergamot Station, in Santa Monica.

Gathering coincided with SLAC's  8th Annual Open Studio Tour.
